Located on Sangkomsongkror road, Ladprao district, Bangkok, Hallmark Ladprao-Chokchai4 low-rise Condominium project is planned to be developed on a land plot with an existing papyrus grove surrounded by housing community. Developed by Chewathai PLC., the project requires a 2-storey sales gallery located on the same site and adjacent to the front road, accommodating a double-volume customer lounge, two mock-up units and a staff office.

Conventionally, the functional demands of the sales gallery typology are paradoxical, in which its form is deemed to be absolutely transparent in order to expose its products inside out blatantly. While at the same time, its facade must provide a certain level of privacy for interested customers and business transactions.

In order to solve this paradox, the proposed design draws an inspiration from its setting. Papyrus trees, rhythmically blown by gentle wind, give an effect of constantly spinning vertical elements, switching back and forth between foreground and background layers. Swaying lines of the sales gallery’s veiling facade, reminiscent of the existing oscillating papyrus grove, are made of simple white steel tubes sliced and shifted diagonally. They are then wrapped around a navy-blue box of the programs.

When looking from outside, the sliced tube elements on the façade act as an array of thin shield, protecting the internal privacy. Yet, its rhythm and adjacency allow the internal loft space and welcoming atmosphere to be seen adequately and playfully from outside.
